Artist stamps available from The Portland Stamp Company. They are not actual USPS stamps. |
I've been obsessed with mail art for 20+ years, which has included a fascination and devotion to the USPS. Then, my son started working for the USPS and that has inspired me to learn more about that industry.
It's no secret that the USPS has some issues, and it is a no-brainer for me that the USPS should NOT be privatized. So, the light bulb moment happened as I was wondering what I could do to be supportive.
Eureka. Dovetail my mail art with whatever else is going on out there to Save the Post Office. Because the USPS is a *union shop,* I was reminded of the International Union of Mail Artists (IUOMA) and thought - maybe we need a union of American mail artists. American Union Of Mail Artists. I had to include the O for Of because AUMA is taken. As luck would have it - there is only one other group using the letters AUOMA - Alberta Used Oil Management Association. Alberta, Canada. I'm happy to share my abbreviation with them. I'll probably send them a nice piece of mail.
It took all of 1 minute to set up this blog. Then I needed an image for my first post. There were a ton of good images and this is the first one I clicked on. As luck would have it - for the SECOND time in 3 minutes - the image took me to a blog (Just Seeds) that was featuring these stamps that are available through The Portland Stamp Company which I just featured on my other blog.
I only took a couple minutes to check out Just Seeds -- and they seem like kindred spirits:
